Where the Wildflowers Grow

There is a very short window of opportunity to see all the Wasatch wildflowers scattered across the mountain floor. Each year Alta holds a wildflower festival for families to come enjoy and learn about the wildflowers. We went on the guided kids walk, where Spencer and the boys dressed like bees and flowers for the introductory talk. Ha ha! What a good dad. There were A LOT of flowers and with the help of our guide, all three kids were walking around identifying Penstamine, Jacob's Ladder, Indian Paintbrush, Blue Bells, Wild Geraniums,etc. There were very large paper flowers to be made and sidewalk art to be created. We had a great picnic while listening to the hired band. The weather was about 80 degrees and at least 20 degrees cooler than in the valley. On the way down we randomly saw a group of Porsche cars racing around a large parking lot at Alta. Miles was beside himself wanting to go check out the races. So we stopped and watched, what we found to be the Porsche Club, race around a lot of orange cones. It was a little nerve racking being so close and hoping they didn't spin out of control toward us. I think we better get that kid to the real racetracks.
