In Memory

Memorial day is a great time to remember those we love that are watching over us. Today I have been thinking about my Grandma Margaret Carter and her sweet ways. I can still smell the homemade rolls as I would walk into her little brick house on Sunday. There she would be bending over the stove (glasses getting all fogged up) pulling something delicious from the oven. She made the most wonderful meals and would run around the neighborhood sharing her famous rolls with friends and neighbors. She would make great roasts and turkeys barely eating any of it. Being raised on a farm she was traumatized by the animals being killed and was mostly a vegetarian. I myself do not eat a lot of meat and find this an interesting connection. There was not a selfish bone in her body. She only spoke good of others and supported all of our activities and goals in life. She never missed a birthday party or special event in our life. When she passed away she never complained but only found sadness in the fact that she would not be there to support us through our lives. She died when I was 16 years old and I still have tears streaming down my face as I write this. I decided to Google my grandma and came across this amazing website about our family history. On the website her sister contributed an autobiography to the site. She wrote about my amazing Grandma posting several pictures. Something that really tugged at my heart strings was the talk from my Grandma Carter's funeral that included a life history that I had wrote for a school report. Wow. This really took me by surprise and I am so grateful to still feel her love and honor her this Memorial Day. I have often felt she was close by. When she was very sick with cancer they moved her home to be comfortable and I walked there everyday after school. I sat with her as she smiled and laughed. Never losing her wit and funny sense of humor. I love you Grandma and look forward to seeing you again. These are some great pictures of my Grandma. She was so beautiful inside and out.

Loved this post. :) My Grandma White was a sweet and dear lady as well. As was my Grandpa White (well a sweet man). Thanks for bringing my thoughts of them to my mind. :)
